Postville Vol. Fire Department provides fire protection and rescue services to the City of Postville and surrounding areas. Covering 97 square miles of land, we are a 100% volunteer department comprised of 1 Chief, 1 Asst. Chief, 2 Captains, 2 Lieutenants, 1 Training Officer, 1 Safety Officer, and 21 Firefighters. We strive to provide the highest level of service to our community and are dedicated to protecting lives and property.

*Home Cooking Fire Prevention Tips*

Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries. Ranges or cooktops cause 62% of home fires. Learn how to stay safe.

​

1. Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop.

 

2. ALWAYS unplug countertop appliances when not in use.

 

3. Make sure you have, and test, GFCI receptacles in your kitchen to prevent shock and electrocution.

​

4. Double check that everything is off when you finish.

​

5. Prevent fires by keeping your oven and stove top clean of grease and dust.

​

6. NEVER leave the kitchen while cooking.

​

7. NEVER cook while sleepy, drinking alcohol, or taking medication that makes you drowsy.

​

8. NEVER disable a smoke alarm while cooking.

​

9. NEVER use a cooking stove to heat your home.
